The Edge 1050 adds a larger 3.5 inch vivid colour touchscreen, a built-in speaker, Group Ride messaging with live locations, and Garmin Pay. The Edge 850 offers solar charging. Choose the 1050 for the best display and connectivity; choose the 850 if solar charging matters more.
Does the Edge 1050 support electronic shifting?
Yes. It connects to Shimano Di2 (including Synchro Shift integration) and SRAM AXS via ANT+ electronic shifting protocols.
Can I create routes on the Edge 1050 without a phone?
Yes. The Edge 1050 has an on-device course creator with Trendline Popularity Routing and a full preloaded Garmin Cycle Map, so you can plan and navigate routes directly on the device.
Does the Edge 1050 work with Garmin Varia radar?
Yes — natively. Pair the Varia RCT715 or RearVue 820 via ANT+ and radar alerts appear as a visual bar directly on your Edge 1050 map screen. You can also control Varia light modes from the Edge.
Does the Edge 1050 work with Zwift and smart trainers?
