Magene T500 Smart Indoor Trainer FAQ
Magene T500 Smart Indoor Trainer — Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Magene T500 compatible with Zwift, TrainerRoad, and Rouvy?
Yes. The T500 communicates via ANT+ FE-C and Bluetooth FTMS — the two universal smart trainer protocols. It works natively with Zwift, TrainerRoad, Rouvy, FulGaz, Wahoo SYSTM, Kinomap, BKOOL, and Magene OnelapFit. No additional hardware or dongle is required for Bluetooth connections. Simply open your training app, search for the trainer, and pair directly.
What makes the T500 different from the T200 V2?
The T500 uses a second-generation permanent magnet synchronous motor vs the T200 V2’s electromagnetic drive. The key differences:
- Power accuracy: ±1% (T500) vs ±2.5% (T200 V2)
- Max power: 2500W (T500) vs 1800W (T200 V2)
- Peak torque: 88 N·m (T500) vs not specified (T200 V2)
- Max gradient: 20% (T500) vs 15% (T200 V2)
- Noise level: Sub-50dB (T500) vs sub-56dB (T200 V2)
The T500 is the choice for serious and competitive cyclists who train with power seriously. The T200 V2 is the choice for enthusiast and recreational riders who want a capable, quiet trainer at a lower price point.
What is the power accuracy of the Magene T500?
The T500 measures power to within ±1% — professional-grade accuracy delivered by its second-generation permanent magnet synchronous motor. This is half the tolerance of the T200 V2 (±2.5%) and matches or exceeds trainers at significantly higher price points. At ±1%, your indoor training watts are a reliable proxy for your outdoor power output, making the T500 suitable for serious FTP testing, race preparation, and power-based training plans.
What is the maximum power and torque of the Magene T500?
The T500 delivers 2500W maximum power and 88 N·m peak torque. The 88 N·m torque figure is particularly significant — it provides the resistance needed for out-of-the-saddle sprint efforts, strength-focused training blocks, and steep gradient simulations that feel authentic rather than mechanical.
What is the maximum gradient the T500 can simulate?
The T500 can simulate gradients of up to 20% — steeper than the vast majority of real-world climbs. For reference, Alpe d’Huez averages 8.1%, and the steepest sections of most cycling routes rarely exceed 15–18%. The T500’s 20% capability means it will never be the limiting factor in your climb simulation.
How quiet is the Magene T500?
The T500 operates at sub-50dB — quieter than the T200 V2 (sub-56dB) and significantly quieter than wheel-on trainers. The permanent magnet synchronous motor and belt transmission system produce minimal mechanical noise. In Singapore’s apartment-dense living environment, this is a meaningful practical advantage for early morning or late night training sessions.
What is ERG mode and does the T500 support it?
Yes, the T500 fully supports ERG mode. In ERG mode, the trainer automatically adjusts resistance to maintain a specific target power output — regardless of your cadence. If you slow down, resistance increases; if you speed up, resistance decreases. This is the primary mode used for structured interval training in TrainerRoad, Zwift workouts, and TrainingPeaks-imported sessions. The T500’s ±1% accuracy and fast resistance response make ERG mode particularly precise and responsive.
What cassettes are compatible with the Magene T500?
The T500 accepts the following cassettes:
- Shimano/SRAM 8–11 speed cassettes (standard freehub included)
- SRAM XDR 12-speed cassettes (XDR freehub sold separately)
- Shimano 12-speed cassettes
The cassette is not included — use your existing road cassette or purchase one separately.
What frame axle standards does the T500 support?
The T500 supports the following axle standards:
- 130mm quick release
- 135mm quick release
- 12×142mm thru-axle
- 12×148mm thru-axle (Boost)
Both the thru-axle kit and quick release kit are included in the box.
How do I calibrate (spindown) the Magene T500?
To calibrate the T500:
- Warm up by riding at moderate intensity for at least 10 minutes
- Open the Magene OnelapFit app, or use the built-in calibration tool in Zwift or TrainerRoad
- Follow the on-screen spindown instructions — accelerate to the target speed, then stop pedalling and let the trainer coast to a stop
- The app will confirm calibration is complete
The T500 includes temperature compensation to maintain accuracy across different ambient conditions. Calibrate whenever you move the trainer to a new environment or after significant temperature changes.
Does the T500 work with a Magene or Garmin bike computer?
Yes. The T500 broadcasts power, cadence, and speed via ANT+ FE-C and Bluetooth FTMS. It pairs directly with:
- Magene C706 GPS Bike Computer — flagship head unit, the natural pairing for the T500
- Magene C606 Pro GPS Bike Computer — mid-range with full trainer control
- All Garmin Edge computers that support ANT+ FE-C smart trainer control (Edge 530, 830, 1040, 1050, etc.)
- Wahoo ELEMNT BOLT and ROAM (via Bluetooth FTMS)
What heart rate monitors work with the T500 setup?
Any ANT+ or Bluetooth heart rate monitor will work alongside the T500 when connected to a training app or head unit. Recommended options available at Bikers.SG:
- Magene H613 Heart Rate Monitor — ECG chest strap, 100h battery, ANT+ & Bluetooth, IPX7
- Magene H803 Heart Rate Armband — optical armband, 45h battery, no chest strap required
The H613 is also compatible with Garmin HRM-Pro and Polar H10 users who already own a chest strap.
Does the T500 require a power cable?
No. The Magene T500 is a self-powered direct-drive trainer — it generates its own power from the resistance unit as you pedal. No mains power cable or adapter is required.
